And it takes me 6 weeks to prepare for it. No joke!! ...........More on that in a minute.
Back to the 6 wks of preparation. After 7 years of this, you'd think I would have this down to a science. I guess I do, for the most part but I always get a little anxious right about a week before. There is A LOT of cooking to be done and I tend to FREAK OUT about the fact that this has to be done between the hours of 6pm Friday night and 1pm Saturday afternoon...with some sleep added in there for good measure. Throw in the fact that I am neither a baker or cook and you can see my problem.
This years menu will consist of the following:
10 pounds of BBQ for BBQ Sliders
Bacon Wrapped Breadstixx
Cheese Wafers
Dill Dip Bread Bowl
3 of my famous Derby Pies
Cake Balls
Derby Cookies
Deviled Eggs
Chips and Dip
Veggie Tray
and whatever else shows up!
The only thing on the above list I am NOT making is the BBQ and Derby Cookies I won from back HERE. ****Enter panic attack.****
So in far, I have gotten together my serving trays and table cloths, hunted down some "decorations", ordered and received the Derby cups and Banner, and spruced up my front porch- so it looks a little more inviting. (I change up the front porch like I change up my hair...what gives??)
I have also shopped, found and bought my Derby Dress ('cuz you can't wear the same one EVA again...like the Oscars.).
Acquired my HAT and made it beautiful. I mean, this is my favoritest Hat yet... and purchased me some Horse Watching Shoes; well, for as long as I can stand them, anyways.
The invitations were made and mailed.
And I just figured out what to do for the table centerpieces...more on that when I get them done.
All that's left to do is make the said centerpieces, order the BBQ, pick up the cookies, clean up the house, ready the guest rooms, cook all the OTHER food and assemble the party tent. Then, I can take a shower and enjoy my party.WAIT....did I really just say "ready the guest rooms". I crack me up!
I can't wait!! I LOVE Derby Day!

How fun! This seems so neat to me! I'll have to admit - I have never even seen the Derby before! Maybe because I'm from GA? I dunno...
